On May 28th, various events have taken place in African history. Here are a few notable events from May 28th in African history:

  1. 1868: Moshoeshoe, the King of Sotho in southern Africa, requested British annexation of his kingdom to avoid being overrun by the Boers.

2. 1900: The Republic of South Africa’s government fled its capital, Pretoria, and went to Watervalboven to evade the advancing British.

3. 1918: Azerbaijan declared its independence and became a Democratic Republic.

4. 1999: The Republic of South Africa held its second democratic general elections. These elections marked the first time that South Africans of all races were able to vote and participate in the democratic process.

5. 2006: The African Union Peace and Security Council authorized the deployment of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to support peacekeeping efforts in Somalia. AMISOM aimed to stabilize the country and assist in the establishment of a functioning government.

6. 2010: The African Development Bank (AfDB) launched the Africa50 infrastructure investment fund. Africa50 aims to mobilize funds for infrastructure development projects across Africa to support economic growth and development.

These are just a few examples of significant events that have occurred on May 28th in African history.
