The land known as CANAAN geographically was situated in the territory of the southern Levant in Africa. The southern Levant refers to an area encompassed by modern Israel, Jordan, and Palestine. CANAAN is the ancient name of this region, and a CANAANITE culture was prominent until the Iron Age, when the kingdoms of Israel and Judah dominated and today the area encompasses Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, Jordan, and the southern portions of Syria and Lebanon all part of #NorthEastAfrica. The term #MiddleEast wasn't coined until the 1850s after the creation of the Suez Canal by the British, long after the lifetime of Jesus.
How did Israel possess the land of CANAAN?
It was due to the curse on CANAAN and his descendants (Genesis 9:25) "And he (Noah) said, Cursed be CANAAN; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren." finds its most obvious fulfillment in the defeat and subjugation of #CANAAN by Israel who are originally dark-skinned #SEMITES (descended of SHEM) (Joshua 2:23-24; 1 Kings 9:20-21). The Israelite possessed and dwelt among the HAMITES (CANAANITES), Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. They inter-married. In many places in the Bible we find the sons of Jacob and the later Israelites taking black #CANAANITE women for wives. (Genesis 16:1-16; 21:8-21).
